Bodegas Ondarre was founded with the intention of producing wines that had a distinct, recognisable identity that reflected the town of Viana.
The variety of the soils and the location of the small, old vineyards on the slopes that rise up towards the Sierra, establish the region's individuality. Vines with low yields and carefully chosen grapes from wines that reflect terroir, which manifest themselves through climate, soil, and human workmanship, can only be produced in this way.
The vineyards of Bodegas Ondarre are situated on the northern hill of the Rioja Valley at 500 metres above sea level. These are small, old vineyard plots with low-yielding vines grown on a range of soil types.
The winery has respect for conventional techniques whilst utilising cutting-edge vinification technology. Their beautiful wines are fermented and aged in both French and American oak, and they regularly invest in their barrel stock.
Ondarre has succeeded in achieving their goal; its celebrated wines, which reflect the variety and distinctiveness of the local soils, have won accolades throughout the world.
