Pago de Carraovejas was founded in 1987 when Jose Maria Ruiz, the country's top sommelier, was searching for a top quality wine, elegant enough to pair with his suckling pig signature dish.
Since that time, every vintage sells out on allocation. The winemaker is Pingus' winemaker, Patricia Benitiez, who receives help from the illustrious Javier Ausas, from Vega Sicilia. Pago de Carraovejas is now the benchmark of modern Ribera del Duero wines and at 850m elevation, these are some of the highest vineyards in the the Ribera del Duero, with clay-rich limestone soils, bringing World class refinement and the perfect amount of ripeness to the Tinto Fino, Tempranillo, Cabernet and Merlot grapes
